I want to say thank you for taking the time to sign up as a member here at the Bartlesville Amateur Radio Forums. let me introduce myself, i am Matthew Sheets, i am now an extra class operator and a VE. my story of how i got into this is short and sweet, and not too boring. (i hope)
couple years ago i purchased a Vertex FTL-2011 radio for my truck, it was my goal to get on with the WCEM team. well as the story goes, life happened and that did not come to pass. thye radio was in the truck so i left it. fast foward a few years and one of the engineers at work seen the antenna on the truck and ask if i was a ham. when i told him no and explained the radio he ask why i did not persue my license. so i did it.
so why this? why a new web forum for all of us? well that is easy. information. i did not have an elmer to help me when i got started, not due to people not being willing to help, but i simply did not know anyone. you can look at the fcc data base and see who is an operator, ut getting together is something diffrent.
QRZ already exist for that. yes it does, and i did post on there once, have no desire to go back. it only takes one bad apple to kill it for someone and i happened to get it. so i did this, it is my hope that local hams will get on here and help eachother as well as help new guys getting started.
and yea, there is a little more to the entire story, but not much more. but i promised to keep it short.
